How it works

    Pick your vault

    Choose the folder Chatlog should write to. Point it at your Obsidian vault if you use one.

    Allow Claude

    Connect Claude in Chatlog and allow access to claude.ai when prompted. Then refresh the Claude tab to begin saving new activity.

    Keep chatting

    With automatic saving enabled, new and continued chats are captured while Chrome is open and you are signed in. To save one open chat, use Save conversation in the popup. For older chats, import Claude's official export ZIP or JSON in Settings; Chatlog does not scan your account history.

What gets saved

Saved

  • Every message, in order
  • Title and dates
  • Code blocks
  • Available artifact source, saved as side files when enabled
  • Project chats, filed in a project folder
  • Images, when Claude gives Chatlog a link

Not saved

  • Anything the page doesn't expose (marked "Not saved" in the note)

Projects and artifacts

Chats that belong to a Claude project are filed under claude/projects/<project-name>/. Available artifact source is saved when enabled in claude/artifacts/.

What does Chatlog do?

Chatlog keeps your ChatGPT and Claude conversations in a searchable archive in this browser. Connect a folder for Markdown or Obsidian, connect Notion, or use both. Grok supports manual visible-text saves.

Where are my chats stored?

Every saved chat is archived locally in this browser. Copies go to your connected Markdown folder and Notion workspace when enabled. Browser storage is removed if you clear extension data or uninstall; files already written to your folder and pages in Notion remain.

Are images saved?

Supported images can be saved to your Markdown folder when ChatGPT or Claude provides an accessible download link, subject to size limits. Unavailable images are marked in the note. Grok saves visible text only. Notion receives file references rather than binary uploads.

What isn't saved?

ChatGPT memory and dedicated Canvas recovery are not supported. Claude artifact source is saved when available and enabled; full interactive previews are not preserved. Files need accessible download data or a matching file in an imported export. Missing content is marked in the saved note.
